This Messianic Hanukkiyah is a depiction of the 'two' Messiahs in Jewish teachingMessiah Ben Joseph, the suffering servant, and Messiah Ben David, the conquering king.
It is taught that a suffering-servant Messiah called Messiah Ben Joseph will appear before the conquering-king Messiah Ben David. Tradition maintains that there will be great suffering right before the advent of Messiah Ben David. The rabbis taught, in fact, that one-third of all the world's woes will come in the generation before the Messiah. There are also prophecies that there will be a War of Gog and Magog around Jerusalem, which is the final confrontation between good and evil. It is believed that the enemies of Israel will only fall to a descendant of Joseph. So it is Messiah Ben Joseph who will lead Israel to victory in the final war between good and evil. Messiah Ben Joseph will be killed in this battle in order for Messiah Ben David to take his rightful throne.
Jesus is the one and only Messiah who appears twice. He came the first time as head of the Church of the Firstborn [Ephraim, son of Joseph]. He was the suffering servant who died in the final battle between good and evil (Col. 2:15) symbolized in the cross. He will return as Messiah Ben David to rule and reign in the earth as symbolized in the Star or Shield of David.
